So Jonathan and I were able to watch most of both conventions.
This election feels like the first that I have been very interested and concerned about. Unfortunately my college mindset didn’t allow for much thought on politics. I believed that it was something I didn’t know enough about to actually have an opinion, so I just didn’t worry about it.
With more experience in paying taxes, a growing concern for the environment, and an understanding of gov’s power over my hopes for the future, I am now officially concerned. The thing that worries me the most is the oppression of the evil people already in government. Can the new president duo really fight that off? What is the inside story?
I love that Palin sold the jet in Alaska. It seems so simple in my mind, the state needs money, not a luzury jet. Why aren’t more people in office like this? Is there a playground in Washington, meant only for the wealthy and well schooled who decide to let loose with Gov’s money after being elected? hm.
more to come…

We have conquered carter lake! I mean, it sorta ate me alive, but I actually made it to the top. One of the longest and highest climbing rides I have done so far. You can’t really trust everyone in CO when they say “carter lake is a good daytime ride, few climbs and mostly flat” Well, Co hills are like mountains to me on my bike!! Oh well. Its still a big leap in cycling in my book and we sure enjoyed pushing through and getting to the top. The sun was just setting a it made for some beautiful photos. The round trip was about 3.5-4 hours from our apartment. Very fun, one for the storybooks!

Well, you just have to get some attention on Bike to work day and you can become stock photography for the local paper. Here they are doing another article about commuting to work, and Darryl (co-worker) and I are pictured again. Interesting that there were 3 more in our team that day, but Darryl and I are the super stars! Note, my legs are hopefully not as white now as they are here
All the hard work paid off
Jonathan’s props on an indepth CokeZero game.
an update: we also won the fwa (favorite website award) site of the day on friday. very cool. http://www.thefwa.com

So we rode to work yesterday for the citywide bike to work day. Jonathan and I had 3 co-workers join us on our route and it was lots of fun. We caught the attention of the Longmont paper and they followed us all the way to work shooting photos of us in action… unfortunately they only put one photo in the paper. Im going to see if I can get the rest of the photos so you can see Jonathan in his spandex too

Shane Claiborne: “What is enough is defined by our relationship to our neighbor—if our neighbor has four cars, then we think we are living simply if we have two cars. If our neighbor doesn’t have water, then two cars is probably too many. We have this command to love our neighbor as ourselves, but I think the great tragedy of our culture is that we are pushed away from suffering, away from poverty to the point that it’s enough if we give a tax-exempt donation or volunteer for a week out of the year. And yet if we’re really in relationship with people who are suffering, that messes with us. It keeps us up at night when we are faced with the reality that we have people in our neighborhood living in a cardboard box in the winter, and we have shelter.
I think the most important question is not what I should give away, because the Scriptures say you can sell everything you have and give it to the poor, but if you don’t have love it’s nothing. So the deepest question around simplicity is about love, and redistribution of resources is only meaningful inasmuch as it’s rooted in love. When we really figure out how to live in the personalism and love of Christ with our neighbor, then that defines what’s enough so that we’re not just driven by an ideology, but by a love relationship to our neighbor.”
I think this is really well said. There is an idea brewing in mine and Jonathan’s hearts about creating action for a cause… but in thinking things through, I have to remember and look for how God is teaching us to love first. It may be a decent idea, but if its not done with love, its just something we are doing…

Well, tomorrow it will have been three years since I said “I do”! What a journey. I still look at Jonathan and sigh, “I got a really good one!” We are biking to work tomorrow for the “bike to work day”. We have a Longmont group that will be riding with us on our route. Should be fun! We have consistantly been riding on the weekends and at least 2 times a week. Its pretty fun and makes working out easier. I think 38miles is prob our longest. Those darn hills/mountains do tire me out!
Our church is joining with 2 other churches which is hard and awesome at the same time. I think we will all be better together than we were alone. Excited to see how things evolve…
They have hired 5 new people in our position at work, so the work has been a bit more spread out, which is very nice.
We are going home to Houston in 8 days!!! Everyone is going to stay at my mom and dad’s so 4 neices and nephews, 2 sisters, 1 brother, 1 almost sister in law(maybe), 2 brother in laws, mom dad, jonathan and me…. 14 total! Thats a party! Possibly 1 or 3 dogs too. Lots of Bocci ball, Ladder golf, Homerun Durby, Soccer tennis, Settlers, Spades, and Pinochle. Oh and lots of baby smooches and crawling around on the floor! I can’t wait.
